Another 2,700 premises will come under the Environmental Sanitation Regime this year, where staff will be appointed and trained to ensure sanitation standards. These include public buildings with high footfall, such as large shopping malls and food courts. Smoking will be banned at all public parks and gardens, as well as Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters sites and 10 beaches from Jul 1. There will be a three-month advisory period before enforcement begins from Oct 1. The Government has no intention to set up more "no-smoking" zones. More hawker centres are being planned and constructed over the next few years. They are in Bukit Canberra, Fernvale, One Punggol and Senja. These are among the plans announced by Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor in Parliament on Monday (Mar 7).
