Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 4: Gan Siow Huang on expansion of Household Services Scheme
Households will soon be able to engage the services of migrant workers to look after their children and elderly part-time, under the Household Services Scheme (HSS). The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is broadening the scope of HSS to better help Singaporeans balance work and family commitments. Minister of State for Manpower Gan Siow Huang, who announced this in Parliament on Monday (Mar 7), said the target is to implement this in the second half of the year. She said this will give caregivers an additional option for paid caregiving service. MOM will engage stakeholders to work out the implementation details over the next few months. She also outlined the plans of MOM to create fair employment for all, push for flexible work arrangements and caregiving options, and strengthen support for mental health and well-being at the workplace.
