Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 4: Louis Chua on carbon credit offsets for large emitters
From 2024, large emitters in Singapore will be able to buy international carbon credits to reduce the carbon tax they have to pay. What accountability measures will be put in place to ensure transparency and fair implementation? How much of the Government’s own net-zero target will be based on such international carbon credit offsets? MP Louis Chua raised these questions in Parliament on Monday (Mar 7). He also asked about the Government’s projection of Singapore’s emissions pathway to mid-century - specifically, if the country is still looking at rising emissions levels until 2030.
