Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 5: Louis Ng on housing for single unwed parents, provision of lactation rooms
While welcoming policy changes that allow single unwed parents to rent and buy HDB flats more easily, MP Louis Ng said more can be done to help reduce their stress and uncertainty. He asked if they could be given a timeline for getting housing once they apply for it, and if housing could be allocated to single unwed mothers by the third trimester of their pregnancy. In Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 8), Mr Ng also spoke on the provision of lactation rooms. Right now, buildings with a gross floor area (GFA) of 10,000 square metres and above must have at least one lactation room. Mr Ng called this “sorely inadequate”. He asked if the minimum number of lactation rooms can be increased and the GFA threshold lowered.
