Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 6: Joan Pereira on preschool places and KidSTART

02:49 Min

To build a Singapore that is “made for families”, the Government has to make it more conducive for busy parents. One area is to ensure that they can get a place for their child in a preschool which is within walking distance of their homes. MP Joan Pereira highlighted this need in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9), saying that keeping parents on the wait list for months can cause great anxiety. She asked if the Government can set a certain timeline and engage parents on where they can find vacancies at suitable nearby centres if the wait is too long. She also welcomed the expansion of the programme KidSTART to better support families in need. She called for regular updates on the progress that families are making.
