A National Wellness Committee for Junior Doctors was set up in December 2021 to improve and ensure their well-being. It will review workflow models and work hour norms, look into career development and training, and promote a more inclusive culture where junior doctors can feel safe speaking out on matters related to their safety and wellness. This was revealed by Senior Minister of State for Health Koh Poh Koon in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9). He noted that the issues are complex and “seek to change years of established practice”. The committee aims to release preliminary recommendations by mid-2022. A tripartite workgroup to prevent abuse and harassment of healthcare workers is also being set up. In his speech, Dr Koh touched on how the Government is addressing other issues related to healthcare such as manpower shortages and affordability.
