03:12 Min

In Parliament on Thursday (Mar 10), NMP Abdul Samad Abdul Wahab said he was "heartened" about the educational progress made by many in the Malay-Muslim community, whether via secular schools or madrasahs. He asked how this success rate could be kept up, as well as the number of Malay-Muslim graduates from tertiary institutions. He also wanted to know how students who graduate from religious universities in the Middle East have integrated into Singapore's multi-racial society. Mr Samad also asked how the salaries of religious teachers compare with those in secular institutions.
