Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 7: Alvin Tan on supporting youths’ mental well-being and civic capacity
Young people will have greater access to peer support, with networks to be established across various settings - from schools, to workplaces, to the community and digital space. This was revealed by Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Alvin Tan in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 10). He also said the Youth Mental Well-being Network will be expanded to a broader network which will drive whole-of-society partnerships on mental health issues. New efforts will also be made to build young people’s civic capacity for constructive discourse by creating safe platforms where they can explore difficult, complex and controversial issues and engage with a diversity of views. The National Youth Council will partner Mediacorp to launch a digital engagement campaign called “Civic Conversations” from April to September this year. It will address topics like race and religion, local-foreigner relations and inter-generational bonding.
