Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 7: Sun Xueling on raising quality of early childhood education

A Leadership Development Framework is being introduced for the early childhood education sector. It will guide educators to strengthen competencies in curriculum, pedagogy, as well as strategic and administrative leadership. A new quality teaching tool is also being developed to set a common standard for preschool teaching practices. Meanwhile, the Early Years Development Framework for children aged three and below will be reviewed to include areas such as the learning of Mother Tongue Languages and development of socio-emotional skills. Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling revealed these initiatives in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 10) as she elaborated on the ministry’s efforts to give every child a good start, support families at all stages of life, and build a fairer and more inclusive society. Ms Sun also announced that 2022 is being designated the Year of Celebrating SG Families, in which family bonding activities will be scaled up.
