Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Christopher de Souza on fight against drugs and terrorism

02:56 Min

There is a growing perception that drugs are less harmful or not harmful if used socially, said MP Christopher de Souza in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27). He wanted to know how the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) intends to reinvent its public messaging on this - in particular, how it will explain that the liberalisation of recreational drug use in other countries, including some in the region, “will in every likelihood lead to massive long-term societal harm”. He also asked how MHA intends to engage youths on the “growing and dangerous lure” of cannabis. Mr de Souza also asked how Singapore will continue to work with other countries in the fight against terrorism, which does not “exist in a vacuum”. He asked how the Home Team is transforming its operational capabilities to prevent terrorist financing and money laundering in relation to terrorism.
