Striving for the Singaporean aspiration of equality in the foreign service sets the tone for society that gender equality is of importance across all areas, said MP He Ting Ru. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), she noted that unlike many countries in the region, Singapore still does not have a woman taking on the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs. Studies have found that having women involved in the peace process increases the chances of negotiation being reached, she said. She wanted to know what steps the Government is taking to support women in the foreign service and ensure that they have an equal chance of success.
