Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Jamus Lim on dedicated land leases for religious institutions

02:05 Min

Property prices in Singapore are not just high but exorbitant for religious institutions that are not fundamentally profit-making in nature, said MP Jamus Lim in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27). He pointed out that the way some religious institutions have navigated the conundrum is to convert part of their operations into profit-making activities. But he added that it is unfair to expect every religious institution to engage in commerce. He suggested dedicated land leases and additional considerations to lower land prices for such institutions.
