Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Patrick Tay on plight of workers in insolvent companies
In Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), MP Patrick Tay raised the plight of workers in insolvent companies. He said there are usually little to no assets left to pay these workers as their outstanding wages are considered unsecured debts. Workers often need to go through a protracted enforcement process to recover unpaid salaries, a procedure made more onerous if the company is undergoing judicial management. Mr Tay also sought an update on the profile of cases adjudicated and settled by the Protection from Harassment Court and asked about plans to better ensure efficient and effective resolution of complaints handled by the Community Disputes Resolution Tribunals.
