Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Patrick Tay on Yellow Ribbon and criminal records

02:11 Min

Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), MP Patrick Tay wanted to know the plans of the Singapore Prison Service and Yellow Ribbon Singapore in helping with the employment and employability needs of ex-offenders. He also asked the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to consider reviewing the Registration of Criminals Act, including the duration of a past offence before the criminal record is spent. He noted that this area had not been reviewed for a long time and hoped that a review would give ex-offenders a higher chance of employment and employability when they re-enter the workforce and society. He also suggested more support from MHA for halfway houses and shelters specially for women.
