Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Sitoh Yih Pin on Public Defender's Office
Ensuring that all accused individuals have access to proper legal representation will go a long way towards assuring the public that Singapore has a robust but fair criminal justice system that protects the interests of all, said MP Sitoh Yih Pin in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27). To that end, he asked for an update on the Public Defender’s Office which was launched in December 2022. He wanted to know how many applications it has received, how many public defenders have been appointed and whether an increased number of applications has been observed at this early stage.
