Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Tan Wu Meng on litigants in person
What has been done since last year to make family law proceedings less difficult for litigants in person - in other words, those who represent themselves in court? MP Tan Wu Meng, who had brought up the issue before, asked this question in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27). He was particularly concerned about Singaporeans who do not qualify for legal aid but also do not earn enough to engage a lawyer. Dr Tan also asked about the role of intermediaries in proceedings, questioning if they make it more complicated for laypeople who do not have the resources of a law firm. He said the Government must make sure that due process does not present undue difficulties for those seeking justice.
