Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on Malay-Muslim community in anti-drug fight
The number of Malay drug abusers arrested fell by 21 per cent in 2022 compared with the previous year. In 2021, the number of Malay drug offenders arrested dropped by 15 per cent, compared with the seven per cent decline in offenders from other communities. MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim cited these statistics in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), saying they showed that the combined efforts by the Central Narcotics Bureau and community-led initiatives have yielded results. He wanted to know how the Ministry of Home Affairs plans to continue working with the Malay-Muslim community to help offenders and ex-offenders.
