Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Foo Mee Har on enabling lifelong learning

06:10 Min

As Singapore gears up to make training truly count, it is important to evolve the SkillsFuture framework to clearly differentiate training programmes and training providers in terms of quality standards, key performance indicators and funding, said MP Foo Mee Har. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28), she suggested having a tiered approach to SkillsFuture based on learning objectives so that the Government can be more targeted in its funding and can prioritse resources for maximum impact. Rather than having a plethora of small players, there should be lead training providers to help deliver a full suite of training programmes tailored for industry. Ms Foo said the next phase of SkillsFuture must be to systematically nurture a core of top-quality lead training providers with strong capabilities to serve their sectors over the long term.
