Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 3: Jamus Lim on flexible through-train programme for schools
A reliance on grades and test results is becoming less and less critical in many important settings; beyond academia, more and more companies are also eschewing formal, traditional test-based metrics. MP Jamus Lim shared this in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28). He highlighted the Workers' Party's proposal for a 10-year through-train programme from Primary 1 to Secondary 4, bypassing the PSLE so that the first major exam will be at Sec 4 level. Assoc Prof Lim said children develop at different rates and this option allows certain kids to learn at a pace that is more suitable to them.
