00:55 Min

There is a mismatch between jobseekers and the vacancies available in the labour market, especially with new roles in the growth industry, said MP Sharael Taha. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28), he pointed out that the Industry Transformation Map provides a high-level overview of the skills that are required in the industries. However, on the ground, potential jobseekers are overwhelmed, he said. He said the challenge is matching the jobseekers with their newly acquired skills set with the vacancies. He wanted to know how the Ministry of Education can strengthen the training and placement programme, particularly in the fragmented sectors to better match jobseekers' skills with vacancies.
