Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 4: Cheryl Chan on transforming aquaculture to meet food security needs

01:48 Min

In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1), MP Cheryl Chan asked for details on how the aquaculture sector will be transformed to support Singapore’s “30 by 30” goal of producing 30 per cent of its nutritional needs by 2030. She wanted to know what is being done to build a pipeline of researchers, technologists and industry partners to manage the trade. Given Singapore’s climate conditions, which are different from temperate regions where the aquaculture sector is more advanced, she asked how the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment is learning lessons that will be applicable to the tropics.
