Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 4: Louis Ng on e-waste, disposable carrier bag charge and second-hand smoke in homes

02:52 Min

E-waste that is improperly handled can be toxic and damage the environment, said MP Louis Ng in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1). He said it has been two years since a system was launched to make producers bear responsibility for collection and treatment of products when they reach end-of-life, and asked how successful this scheme has been in increasing e-waste recycling rates. Mr Ng also asked if the disposable carrier bag charge might be extended to convenience stores. On second-hand smoke in homes, he said it is a matter of public health, not just a neighbourly dispute, and called for a public consultation and citizens’ workgroup to discuss the issue.
