Debate on President’s speech: Eric Chua on battling addiction linked to sexually compulsive behaviours
Singaporeans must confront the issue of addiction openly and not shy away from uncomfortable conversations on the problem, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Social and Family Development Eric Chua. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 24), he singled out the serious and emerging trend of addiction linked to sexually compulsive behaviours. He called for constructive dialogue and urged Singaporeans to work together to strengthen the support ecosystem so that people suffering in silence feel safe to emerge from the shadows to seek help. With better understanding and support all round, they can change attitudes and help those who are suffering from addiction to recover and rebuild, he added.
