Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 4: Yeo Wan Ling on strengthening support for vulnerable workers
In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 1), MP Yeo Wan Ling lauded the Government for recognising the concerns of platform workers and accepting the recommendations that will strengthen the social and livelihood safety nets for such workers. She pointed out that platform workers have voiced their concerns on how the introduction of CPF may affect their take-home earnings and subsequently their livelihoods, but welcomed the Government’s move to introduce a CPF transition support to alleviate these concerns. She noted that as Singapore looks to strengthen its social compact, vulnerable Singaporeans who are on the fringes should still be supported in their desire for decent livelihoods and have the opportunity to contribute back to Singapore.
