Will the Government consider offering a voucher programme so that parents can buy healthier foods like fresh fruit and vegetables to help children start off on the right foot? MP Leon Perera raised this question in Parliament on Friday (Mar 3), where he shared proposals to “improve the trampoline” - referring to helping individuals bounce back. Mr Perera also drew attention to three possibly underserved groups in the social service landscape. He wanted to know if the allowances of full-time national servicemen (NSFs) have resulted in increased poverty within this group for those from poorer families. He also asked if the Government has studied the financial impact of incarceration and whether this in turn has an impact on poverty and recidivism.
