Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 6: Murali Pillai on Enabling Business Hub and strengthening the culture of giving
In Parliament on Friday (Mar 3), MP Murali Pillai said he is “cheered” by the positive steps taken by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to help persons with disabilities (PWDs) become meaningfully employed. As part of efforts to be an inclusive society, more should be done to help PWDs who need customised work support and a structured environment to work in, he said. He asked MSF for its assessment of its efforts to reach its target of 40 per cent employment for PWDs. He also wanted to know what should be done to strengthen the culture of giving. He said successful organisations and people must be made to feel more invested in the lives of the less fortunate so that they feel morally obliged to do their part to donate.
