Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 6: Wan Rizal on harassment or abuse of healthcare workers

01:04 Min

A zero-tolerance policy must be established on harassment or abuse of healthcare workers, with clear protocols so that offenders know there will be consequences. MP Wan Rizal said this in Parliament on Friday (Mar 3). He said studies show that healthcare workers who suffer workplace harassment and abuse are more likely to experience burnout, job dissatisfaction and emotional exhaustion, leading to higher absenteeism and turnover rates. This could contribute to a manpower shortage and affect the accessibility and quality of healthcare services. Dr Wan Rizal asked for the Ministry of Health’s plans to support the growth and well-being of healthcare workers.
