Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Joan Pereira on fertility and population strategies

01:43 Min

With falling fertility, fewer and later marriages and a rapidly ageing population, will Singapore be able to sustain society and the standard of living? Who will look after the increasing numbers of elderly? Who will pay taxes? Will Singapore have enough blood donors? These were some of the questions raised by MP Joan Pereira in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). She also wanted to know what measures the Government will be implementing to reverse the falling fertility rate, and if more extensive and innovative measures will be considered.
