Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Louis Ng on equalising parental leave, mandating paternity leave and support for more lactation rooms

03:50 Min

Fathers are losing time with their babies as some companies are waiting for paternity leave to be mandated before they give it, said MP Louis Ng in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). He asked the Government to provide a firm timeline on when the extra two weeks of paternity leave will be mandated. He reiterated his call for more parental leave and for the Government to commit to a firm timeline to equalise both maternity and paternity leave. He also asked the Government to provide companies with more incentives to support them in giving their employees parental leave. He asked if the Government can look into providing additional support for building owners to retrofit their buildings with dedicated lactation rooms or lactation pods, and urged for more lactation rooms to be mandated in buildings.
