Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 2: Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on strengthening Singapore as a dispute resolution hub
Singapore has been attracting more international case filings - they made up 88 per cent of new cases filed at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre in 2022, and have also been growing at the Singapore International Commercial Court in the Supreme Court, said MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim. However, in a competitive global landscape, he asked what the Ministry of Law is doing to strengthen Singapore’s status as a top legal and dispute resolution hub, including supporting the legal profession and harnessing technology such as data analytics and generative AI. Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Feb 29), Mr Zhulkarnain also sought an update on the ministry’s efforts to improve access to justice for litigants with limited means, possibly through the extension of Conditional Fee Agreements.
