Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 3: Christopher de Souza on AI governance

04:25 Min

Singapore launched AI Verify in 2022 as one of the world’s first AI governance testing frameworks and toolkits. Last year, it said it was mapping elements of AI Verify to the United States’ AI risk management framework. MP Christopher de Souza cited this in Parliament on Friday (Mar 1) and asked how Singapore intends to work similarly with other nations and stay at the forefront of AI innovation and governance. He also said that as Singapore builds an AI-enabled society, it must ensure that the risks are “properly allocated to the right commercial entities to incentivise risk management and risk thinking”. He said this will “allow market forces to naturally balance the interests of the national economy with the interests of protecting individual consumers and users”.
