Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 3: Louis Chua on strengthening consumer protection

While the Government has undertaken some initiatives to address unfair trading practices, they fall short of the robust protection framework that a First World economy like Singapore should have, said MP Louis Chua in Parliament on Friday (Mar 1). He said that the prevailing mindset of “caveat emptor” or buyer beware needs to be transformed into one where individuals can confidently stand against the might of big business and know that while the customer is not always right, they will at least be treated fairly.
