Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Gan Thiam Poh on hawker centres

Many residents rely on hawker centres to provide their main meals several times a week, said MP Gan Thiam Poh. Hawker centres are an integral part of community life, providing a wide range of good food, he added. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), he pointed out that with rising costs, hawkers are finding it hard to keep food prices affordable. He wanted to know how the Government is maintaining a balance between keeping hawker food prices affordable and ensuring that the earnings of hawkers are attractive for them to continue working or bring in new talent.
