Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: He Ting Ru on discouraging hasty repatriations

00:58 Min

In Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), MP He Ting Ru said that migrant workers sometimes face retaliation by employers when they make a complaint. She added that employers can cancel work permits and repatriate the workers, including domestic workers, and that the repatriation can take place "virtually overnight". She stated that a reform of these roles will help Singapore utilise available labour quickly in a tight labour market as well as retain workers who are already here and have the language and skills to fit in.
