Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Jamus Lim on pernicious non-competes and junior workers
MP Jamus Lim said non-compete clauses are included in many modern labour contracts. In Parliament on Monday (Mar 4), he said these clauses impose restrictions on joining or otherwise doing business with a rival firm even after employment with the firm in question is over. He said non-competes can have detrimental effects on workers’ rights and freedoms. He urged the Ministry of Manpower to consider either providing strong guidance against non-competes or even banning them.
