Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: Nadia Ahmad Samdin on food security and coastal protection
Singapore needs to increase its food resilience by minimising external disruptions and maximising internal production, said MP Nadia Ahmad Samdin in Parliament on Monday (Mar 4). She asked about the take-up rate of the Farm-to-Table Recognition Programme and how many more businesses have been procuring locally farmed produce since the inception of the scheme in March 2023. She asked if the Government could consider giving recognition to wet market stallholders who supply homegrown produce in the heartlands, including potential incentives such as rental subsidies. She also wanted to know how the Government intends to better manage the increasing frequency of food supply chain disruptions. Ms Nadia also spoke about coastal protection. She asked how findings from the third National Climate Change Study are helping to inform and bolster Singapore’s coastal resilience strategies, including the possibility of incorporating nature-based solutions.
