The longer waiting time for Build-to-Order flats will have an adverse effect on Singapore’s total fertility rate, said NCMP Hazel Poa. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5), she urged the Government to consider Progress Singapore Party’s proposal of the Millennial Apartments Scheme to provide interim rental housing to young people. It should also increase the number of flats with shorter wait by building in advance. The Government should lower the age limit for singles to buy HDB flats to 28 - allow them to buy new three-room flats so that when they find the right partner, they can start a family immediately if they already own a flat.
