Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Melvin Yong on rail manpower development

01:16 Min

Singapore's rail network is poised to grow significantly in the coming years with the addition of at least 50 new train stations and several new interchanges, along with the completion of the Singapore-Johor Bahru Rapid Transit System in 2026, said MP Melvin Yong in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5). Highlighting how the COVID-19 pandemic had stymied training for about two years, he asked how much funds remain in the Rail Manpower Development Package (RMDP) which is set to expire this year. He expressed hope that the Ministry of Transport can extend and even top up the RMDP so Singapore can continue growing its skilled workforce to support the expanding and increasingly complex rail network.
