The budget meals and drinks options in older Housing and Development Board (HDB) estates are still limited, said MP Murali Pillai, as most of the coffee shops there are sold in the open market and not rented from HDB. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5), he asked the Ministry of National Development for an update on his suggestion for HDB to impose a budget meal and drink requirement on such privately owned coffee shops as a condition for permission to use the outdoor refreshment areas.
