Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Nadia Ahmad Samdin on living with nature and developments in blue spaces

02:42 Min

As Singapore continues to urbanise and develop, it is more important than ever for people to have access to opportunities to connect easily with nature. At the same time, human-wildlife tensions are on the rise and there have been calls for intervention to curb wildlife populations. MP Nadia Ahmad Samdin made these points in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5). She asked about progress to transform Singapore into a City in Nature and what NParks is doing to involve the community in developing an understanding and appreciation of nature and its impact on Singaporeans’ lives. She asked what more can be done to manage human-wildlife tensions and prepare for the possible threat of animal-related diseases. Ms Nadia also asked about plans to reclaim Long Island off East Coast Park. She wanted to know if nature-based solutions are being considered in the reclamation and development process and how marine life is likely to be affected. She also sought updates on eco-tourism projects in the Southern Islands.
