Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Yeo Wan Ling on use of PMAs to earn a living

01:35 Min

Proposed new rules to enhance safety and reduce misuse of personal mobility aids (PMAs) have raised concerns among persons with disabilities (PWDs) who use them to earn a living, said MP Yeo Wan Ling. She asked if studies have been done on the potential income losses for this affected group and whether transitional measures might be considered, such as trade-in arrangements for non-compliant PMAs. She also asked for more support for riders who have long-term disabilities or are frail due to age or chronic illnesses but do not have the necessary medical documents to be cleared to use a PMA. Ms Yeo spoke in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5).
