Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 6: Gerald Giam on licensed childminding services
Parents who do shift work often need childminding support beyond the operating hours of childcare centres and many of them are from the lower-income group. With this in mind, MP Gerald Giam asked for an update on the expansion of childminding options. He asked if childminders’ wages could be subsidised to attract more to join the scheme and whether the Government will take the lead to roll out the programme nationwide. Mr Giam also asked about efforts to promote the service and whether it could be integrated into KidSTART, ComLink and other related programmes for the low-income. He spoke in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 6).
