Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 6: Sitoh Yih Pin on hosting major events in Singapore
Singapore projects as an attractive entertainment and sports events hub because it has a strategic location, quality infrastructure, safety, efficiency and diverse cultural offerings that allow it to present a complete package in pitches to host such major events. MP Sitoh Yih Pin said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 6), citing the examples of Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran among the many internationally renowned performers who have held concerts in Singapore. Mr Sitoh added that moving forward, Singapore should leverage this momentum and as it continues to do so, also look towards renewing older infrastructures at the Sports Hub such as the Singapore Indoor Stadium. He also highlighted that more can be done for lower-income families, such as by providing them with cheaper or even free tickets to events. He asked the Culture, Community and Youth Minister to give an update on plans for the Sports Hub as well as the strategies that the ministry intends to employ to cement Singapore’s position as an entertainment and sports hub, as well as to allow lower-income families to enjoy these events in Singapore.
