Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 1: He Ting Ru on the Progressive Wage Credit Scheme

02:58 Min

In parliament on Friday (Feb 28), MP He Ting Ru raised several questions about the long-term sustainability of the Progressive Wage Credit Scheme (PWCS). Expressing concern over the ongoing extension of what was first presented as a temporary support, she sought clarity on how the Ministry of Finance intends to structure an exit plan from the PWCS with firm targets that take into account a whole-of-economy approach. With economic disruptions becoming more frequent, she also wondered if the government will "keep returning to wage subsidies" whenever sectors face challenges.
