Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on defending parliament's role
Parliament, as the primary organ of the legislative branch, must not only be able to discharge its law-making responsibilities but also ensure that the government remains faithful to its duty to all Singaporeans, said MP Sylvia Lim. Speaking in parliament on Monday (Mar 3), she highlighted three areas where “we need to do better”. These are the way parliamentary questions are managed, parliament’s reputation as a law-making institution and the Presidential Council for Minority Rights as a vital safeguard on parliament. Ms Lim stressed the need to build institutions that will see Singapore through over a long period of time.
