Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 4: Jessica Tan on energy and decarbonisation
As a small resource constrained country, Singapore imports almost all of its energy needs. Ensuring stable and secure energy sources while transitioning to clean energy is a challenge, said MP Jessica Tan. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5), she said Singapore is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. She asked the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) to provide an update on the measures to transition to a low-carbon economy, including decarbonising the power sector. She wanted to know what trade-offs Singapore will need to consider as it transitions. She also asked MTI to share more details on Singapore's nuclear strategy and plans, including the safety, reliability and environmental impact of the deployment of nuclear.
