Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 4: Mark Lee on Singapore’s sustainability efforts
Singapore must make sure its transition to a low-carbon economy does not come at the expense of its competitiveness, NMP Mark Lee said in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5). He pointed out that many regional economies are also advancing a sustainability agenda while keeping energy costs low and maintaining a strong industrial base. He asked how the government is working to decarbonise the power sector while ensuring that energy remains cost-competitive for businesses. Mr Lee also asked if SMEs can get more help with sustainability adoption and reporting, through provision of a step-by-step roadmap and standardised software.
