Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 5: Leong Mun Wai on underemployment
Underemployment is a real problem for Singaporeans, especially as they age and their wages are high, said NCMP Leong Mun Wai in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6). To get a better idea of the scale of the problem, he suggested that the government track over time the number of Singaporeans earning lower wages, who no longer have the same seniority in their jobs, and are involuntarily employed as part-time or contract workers. He also suggested tracking the resident labour force data correlated with workers’ prior residency status.
