Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 5: Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim on AI and job redesign, lifelong learning and skills development
In parliament on Thursday (Mar 6), NMP Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim noted that as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform the workplace, it is important to understand its impact on job redesign. She wanted to know how the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is addressing the impact of AI on job redesign and what support the ministry is providing to affected employees. She also wanted to know how MOM is supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises to overcome the unique challenges they face in implementing job redesign and upskilling initiatives, especially in the context of integrating AI technologies. Turning to the issue of lifelong learning, she noted that Singapore must embrace skills-based career development as a cornerstone of its workforce strategy. She wanted to know how these strategies are being effectively communicated and implemented.
