Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 6: Hany Soh on public service media entities and digital inclusion for all
While advancements in technology and artificial intelligence (AI) bring about new opportunities, they also present new challenges and competition, said MP Hany Soh in parliament on Friday (Mar 7). Citing examples in news media and entertainment spheres, she noted that consumers worldwide have been increasingly moving towards online streaming services and non-traditional sources such as social media. Highlighting job cuts by overseas media companies such as BBC, CNN, as well as Singapore’s SPH Media, she asked how the Ministry of Digital Development and Information intends to support public service media entities to ensure that they remain relevant and maintain or improve audience outreach. Turning to how the government has been helping vulnerable groups integrate into society, she wanted to know the progress made by the Seniors Go Digital programme and what challenges have been encountered in its implementation.
